Mercedes-Benz LG 3000

The Mercedes-Benz LG 3000 was a three-axle off-road truck of the 3-tonne payload class that Daimler-Benz developed for the German Reichswehr and that both the Reichswehr and the later Wehrmacht used as a medium cross-country truck until 1945. The army had begun to plan its motorisation in 1926 and asked industry for a three-axle truck with twin rear tyres, high ground clearance and driven rear axles. Henschel, Krupp, Büssing-NAG and Magirus answered first, and Daimler-Benz presented its LG 3000 around 1935 and 1936 after building three LG 63 prototypes. Series production began in 1936 with 500 vehicles, peaked at almost 2,500 in 1937, and reached 7,440 by 1940. A 4-tonne variant, the LG 4000, was offered from 1937 to 1939. Fire brigades, the Reichsbahn and the Reichspost also bought the truck, and the Wehrmacht fitted it with many special bodies.
