M422 Mighty Mite

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The AMC M422 Mighty Mite, catalogue number G-843, was an extra lightweight quarter-ton 4x4 tactical truck designed for the United States Marine Corps to be carried by helicopter and moved by hand. It was known for its very short length and tight turning circle, was approved for 55 miles per hour by the military and 65 by American Motors, and was built by AMC for the Marines from 1959 through 1962, just under 4,000 in all. The design began with Ben Gregory's postwar MM-100 mini-jeep, powered by a 44 horsepower Porsche flat-four, before the Marine contract and an AMC air-cooled 50 horsepower V4 reshaped it.
