Kaiser Jeep M715

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Kaiser Jeep M715, called the Five quarter after its one and a quarter ton payload, was an American light military 4x4 truck based on the civilian Jeep Gladiator SJ, designed from 1965 to replace the Dodge M37 and the first M-series tactical vehicle to use mostly commercial components. Between 30,500 and 33,000 were built at Toledo, Ohio, from 1967 to 1969, as cargo and troop carriers and as the M724 cab and chassis, M725 ambulance and M726 telephone maintenance variants. It used a 230.5 cubic inch overhead-cam Tornado six of 132.5 horsepower on a 24 volt system and served in Vietnam, Korea and Europe, though seen as underpowered and fragile. The army replaced it from 1976, and Kia builds the KM450 on licence.
