The Isuzu TS and TW were all-wheel-drive trucks that Isuzu built from 1951 until 1993. They were developed when the creation of the National Police Reserve and large development projects called for trucks that could cross rough ground, and later found steady demand in snow clearing, power development and timber hauling. The first models, the TS11 and TW11 and the 21 versions, appeared in May 1951 as six-wheel-drive trucks, with the 11 using a diesel and the 21 a petrol engine. Four-wheel and six-wheel versions of 4 to 6 tonnes followed in the 1960s, and the 6BG1 engine of 175 horsepower arrived in 1984. Civilian sales ended in 1986, leaving only Japan Self-Defense Force use, and the truck stayed essentially unchanged until it became the last bonnet truck in Japan.
