Fiat 30

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Fiat 30 was an artillery tractor for heavy loads built in 1915 by the Italian maker Fiat. Its prototype was the Fiat 16, tested in 1911 and 1912. It served as a tractor for heavy loads, mainly guns: surviving photographs show it towing the 149 mm gun 149/35 M00 and the barrel carriage of the 280 mm mortar 280/10 M79, as well as several two-axle trailers, and one version carried a crane at the front as a recovery vehicle. Only 70 or 75 were built, between February and April 1915, before production switched to its successor, the Fiat 20B. Only the rear wheels were driven, through a chain covered in sheet metal, and its water-cooled four-stroke petrol engine, the Fiat 67, had four cylinders cast in pairs and gave 60 PS. The Italian army kept the type in use until the end of the 1930s.
