The Austin K5 was a British heavy military truck built by Austin for use during the Second World War. With an open body and cab it carried the Ordnance QF 6 pounder anti-tank gun as a portee in the North African Campaign, and with an enclosed cab it served as a general service lorry. Enclosed body versions were used for salvage and rescue work in the United Kingdom. Troops nicknamed it the Screamer because of a rather noisy transfer case. It belongs to the K series of Austin military lorries, alongside the K2 ambulance chassis and the thirty hundredweight K30 from which that family descended.
