Unimog 427

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Unimog 427 was a heavy Unimog series that Daimler-Benz built at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Gaggenau between 1988 and 2003, 16,401 in all. It replaced the Unimog 424 in 1988 and kept essentially the same appearance but brought technical changes such as a new engine. It was built as the U 1000, U 1200, U 1400, U 1600 and U 1600 (214). Apart from the U 1000, each model also came with a long wheelbase, marked by a sales name ending in 50. In 1992 the charge-cooled OM 366 LA engine was introduced in the series, with 157 kilowatts, or 214 horsepower; to avoid confusion with the U 2100 of the 437 series the model with it was called U 1600 (214). The variants marked L, with long wheelbase and extra-long rear overhang, were off-road trucks for special bodies, and the T variants of the U 1200 and U 1400 were tractor heads for special bodies.
