Unimog 417

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Unimog 417 was the medium Unimog series of the Unimog programme of 1988. Daimler-Benz built it at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Gaggenau between 1988 and 1993 as successor to several earlier medium series, and 2,285 vehicles were made in 15 variants before the 418 replaced it. It had only a closed all-steel cab and two wheelbases. It differs from the lighter 407, built at the same time, in its headlights integrated in the bumper, greater ground clearance and stronger engines. First vehicles left the Gaggenau line in April 1988; the first variant, the 417.100, was sold as the Unimog U 800 with a four-cylinder OM 314 engine of 75 horsepower, or 55 kilowatts, for municipal and farm use, but weak power meant that only 68 were sold. The more powerful versions sold much better. In April 1992 the Unimog 418 replaced it.
