The Unimog 407 was the light Unimog series of the Unimog programme of 1988, built by Daimler-Benz at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Gaggenau between 1988 and 1993 as successor to the Unimog 421. Altogether 789 vehicles were built in three variants. Unlike its predecessor it was available only with a short or a long wheelbase and a closed cab, so there was no tractor-head version and no open cab. In 1993 it was replaced by the Unimog 408. It was one of four series that Daimler-Benz brought in under the Unimog programme of 1988, together with the medium 417 and the heavy 427 and 437, after Unimog sales had fallen from about 10,000 vehicles a year in the 1970s to about half that at the end of the 1980s.
