SPA 25C

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The SPA 25C, later called the Fiat-SPA 25C, was a light truck produced by the Società Piemontese Automobili from 1925 for the civilian market and the Italian armed forces. Designed in 1925 and built in two versions, the 25C/10 and the 25C/12, which differed in engine displacement and power, it sold very well to civilians, both as a truck and as a chassis for bus, tanker and fire pump bodies for the fire brigades of cities. The Royal Army bought both versions to replace the Fiat 15ter, as the base truck and in several special bodies, among them an ambulance with six stretchers, a bus, a refrigerator, a workshop, a horse transporter and a recovery vehicle for crashed aircraft of the Royal Air Force. The trucks were replaced in the mid 1930s by the Fiat-SPA 36R and 38R, though the special bodies stayed in service until the Second World War. The engine of both versions was a water-cooled four-cylinder petrol unit with a Zenith carburettor and magneto ignition, on a two-axle chassis with a wheelbase of 3.25 metres. A Polish licence version, the SPA 25C/Polonia, led to the Ursus A, built in 1,200 examples until 1931.
