The Renault Maxity is a light commercial truck of cab-over-engine layout that Renault Trucks launched in 2007. It is nearly identical to the Nissan Cabstar, with which it shares its drive-train and engine options, and it is built on the same Nissan-owned production line in Avila, Spain. That sharing is an example of the Renault-Nissan Alliance at work, although the Maxity itself is sold by Renault Trucks, which is owned by Volvo. In Europe it is offered in versions from 2.8 to 4.5 tonnes, and only as a 3.4 or 3.5 tonner in Britain. The Maxity is rear-wheel drive and uses a choice of two diesel engines, a 2.5 litre DXi2.5 in two states of tune and a 3.0 litre turbocharged DXi3, mated to five-speed or six-speed manual gearboxes. Its compact cab, 1,870 mm wide, and tight turning radius are promoted for city delivery work, and in 2010 Renault Trucks trialled a two-tonne electric version in Paris with a drinks distributor.
