Renault Gamme B

The Gamme B, or Messenger, from Renault is a series of small rear-wheel-drive trucks that use the cab of the Master I with a ladder frame and twin rear wheels, for a gross vehicle weight from 3.5 to 6.5 tonnes. They were built from October 1982 at Batilly in Lorraine by Renault Vehicules Industriels (R.V.I.), which became Renault V.I. in 1992. A 4x4 version was offered to the armed forces and public services such as the fire brigade and EDF. They exist as sheet-metal vans of two lengths, normal and extended, with or without a fibreglass raised roof, and as chassis cabs fitted with tippers, drop sides or other equipment. They use SOFIM 8140 direct-injection engines, whose horsepower gives the names B70, B80, B90, B110 and finally B120, up to the 118 hp of the B120 while keeping the displacement of 2.5 or 2.8 litres by changing the turbo size and adding an intercooler. The gearbox is a ZF five-speed, S 5.18 for the B70 and B80 and S 5.24 for the others.
