Renault CA

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Renault CA was a Renault truck that came out in 1911 and marks a transition towards the more modern types that entered service during the First World War. It was presented to the Mines authority on 8 April 1911, and two examples took part in the heavy truck trials organised by the Ministry of War in July and August 1911, winning a prize, which means that civilian buyers received a subsidy so that the Army could requisition suitable lorries on mobilisation. Production was 56 trucks, 16 of them bought by the Imperial Russian Army in January 1913, and the French Army requisitioned most of the civilian CAs in August 1914. Unlike other Renault trucks it has its engine under the seat. The engine is a four-cylinder Renault of 90 by 140 mm rated at 14 HP, with shaft drive and a reduction gear in a sealed housing in the rear axle, and the payload is 3 tonnes.
