Renault AHS

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Renault AHS was a light utility vehicle made by the French maker Renault at Boulogne-Billancourt, in the middle of the war under German-occupied France, from 1940 to 1944 and then until 1947. It replaced the Renault AGC and had a payload of 2 tonnes, and Renault advertising of the time presented it as the light 2 tonne truck. The prototype was shown in December 1939, developed to replace the AGC for the needs of the French Army, but stayed a single prototype, and series production could only start in 1941 because of the German advance. The series model was 5.60 m long and offered only as a flatbed cab with drop sides, hoops and tarpaulin, with the engine of the 1937 Renault Primaquatre, the 603 four-cylinder petrol unit of 2,383 cubic centimetres giving 46 hp at 2,800 rpm, a four-speed gearbox and a top speed of 60 km/h loaded. Total production was 7,985, and the AHS-1 was a producer-gas version of which 347 were built.
