Renault 208

The Renault 208 was the first truck with a payload of seven tonnes that the Regie Renault presented after the Second World War. It came with two engines: the petrol 208, built from June 1945 to January 1946 in 360 examples, and the diesel 208 D, built from November 1945 to April 1948 in 3,899 examples including 12 of a 216 D variant, one colonial version and one modified 208 D 2, for a total of 4,259. The article places it in the history of Renault trucks before the war, when the state made each maker produce one type of equipment, and when the forward cab, adopted on the ABF of 1934, was a novelty in France. The 208 was a forward-cab truck considered a heavy carrier at the time, with a two-piece windscreen, extrapolated from the AGK. The 208 D used Renault's 8,344 cubic centimetre heavy-oil engine and was renamed the R.4080 in mid 1948.
