The Mini Van was the commercial panel van version of the classic Mini, rated for a quarter ton load. It was built on the longer Traveller chassis but had no side windows, and a set of simple stamped steel slots took the place of a chrome grille. In Britain it was classed as a commercial vehicle and so carried no sales tax, which made it a popular and cheaper alternative to the car in the 1960s. It was renamed the Mini 95 in 1978, the number standing for a gross vehicle weight of 0.95 tons, and 521,494 were built. In the late 1970s the British Leyland factory in Portugal, IMA, made an estate van with rear side windows, a single rear window and a top hinged rear door.
