The Vario was a full-size commercial heavy van and medium-duty truck that Mercedes-Benz built from 1996 to 2013, in model designations BM667, 668 and 670. It was launched in 1996 as a facelifted version of the T2 and kept a largely unchanged body for seventeen years. It proved a popular base for trucks, minibuses and mini-coaches, and a version with a wheelchair lift was offered when rules required disabled access. Early cars used five and four cylinder turbodiesels, and from September 2000 the 618D and 818D carried a 4.2 litre direct-injection turbodiesel. The last Vario left the Ludwigsfelde plant on 27 September 2013, after 90,743 had been built.
