Mercedes-Benz light cab-over trucks (LP)

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The light cab-over truck with a cubic cab of Daimler-Benz, also called the LP light, where P stands for Pullman cab, was built between 1965 and 1984 and replaced by the LN2 light class. It sat in the range above the T 2 and below the medium cab-over truck. The modern cab had generous windows of 2.87 square metres and was cheap to produce, but it could not be tilted, which made the trucks hard to maintain. In Germany the type is nicknamed Wörther I. The basic LP 608 had the newly developed OM 314 inline four-cylinder direct-injection diesel of 80 horsepower, the first Mercedes four-cylinder diesel with direct injection, and a five-speed gearbox; the top speed was 80 or 95 kilometres per hour depending on the axle ratio. The range grew to the LP 808 and, from 1969, to six-cylinder OM 352 models up to nine tonnes. Production ended in 1984.
