The Mercedes-Benz L 319 was a light commercial vehicle built by Mercedes-Benz between 1955 and 1968. It was larger than a standard delivery van but smaller than a conventional light truck of its day, and it was the manufacturer's first model in this class, prompted by the success of the Volkswagen panel van and the revived Opel Blitz. It premiered at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1955 with a gross weight of 3.6 tonnes and a cab-over layout, and was offered as a panel van, light trucks and several kinds of minibus, with the engine shared with the Mercedes-Benz 180 D. Production moved to Düsseldorf in 1961, the designation changed to L 405 and L 407 in 1963, and between 120,000 and 140,000 had been built when the T2 replaced it for the 1968 model year.
