Jeep Forward Control

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Jeep Forward Control was a cab-over truck built by Willys Motors, later Kaiser Jeep, from 1956 to 1965 and also assembled under licence in India and Spain. Brooks Stevens gave it a futuristic cab with a centre grille panel echoing the seven-slot Jeep design, and engineering was based on the CJ-5, powered by Hurricane F-head and L-head four-cylinder engines. Marketed for corporate, municipal, military and civilian work, it took many outside bodies, from flatbeds to tow, dump and fire trucks, and sold best in 1957 with 9,738 trucks. The unconventional look was too unusual for mainstream buyers but succeeded in specialty roles such as airport service and rail-riding crew trucks. Just over 30,000 were built in nine years.
