Isuzu Midi

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Isuzu Midi was a small van and minibus built in Luton, England, by IBC Vehicles from 1986 to 1996. It was a modernised version of the Japanese Isuzu Fargo, which General Motors adopted for Europe after talks with Freight Rover about building the Rover Sherpa under licence came to nothing. It was sold as the Bedford Midi for Vauxhall and as the Isuzu Midi for Opel, the Bedford name being chosen for the tradition of that commercial-vehicle maker. It came with a long or short wheelbase as a panel van or minibus, optionally with a high roof, and with rear-wheel drive or on request four-wheel drive, which won it many sales to ambulance and fire services. Early engines were a 2.0 litre petrol and a 2.0 litre turbodiesel; a 1989 facelift enlarged the diesel to 2.2 litres, and a 2.4 litre turbodiesel followed. The Opel Arena replaced it in 1997.
