Ford Thames 307E

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Thames 307E was a small panel van that Ford UK launched in June 1961, based on the newly introduced Ford Anglia 105E and replacing the Thames 300E. Like its predecessor it was sold as the Thames 5 cwt or the Thames 7 cwt van, names that gave the recommended maximum loads of about 250 and 350 kilograms, with advertised load space of 73 cubic feet including 12 cubic feet beside the driver. It used a specially developed commercial version of the Anglia 105E engine with a compression ratio of 7.5 to 1 or, optionally, 8.9 to 1, and the four-speed gearbox of the latest Anglia. The 5 and 7 cwt versions could be told apart by their grilles, painted horizontal slats on the base van and a bright mesh grille on the 7 cwt. Left-hand-drive export versions were designated the 308E. From October 1962 the vans could also have the 1,198 cc engine of the Anglia Super, as the 309E, with left-hand-drive 310E export versions. In March 1965 the Thames name was discontinued and the vans were sold as Ford Anglia Vans until production ended in November 1967 with 205,001 built.
