Fiat 508F

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Fiat 508F is a light commercial vehicle that Fiat derived from its 508 Balilla car and built from 1932 to 1941; it was often nicknamed the Pigmeo, and it replaced the Fiat 507F launched in 1927. It brought a one-piece windscreen at a time when rival models still had a central pillar, together with electric wipers whose rate varied with the speed of the vehicle. It was offered as a steel-bodied panel van with a payload of 320 kilograms and an empty weight of 695 kilograms, as a pickup with a wooden bed carrying 380 kilograms, and as a cab chassis or bare chassis for coachbuilders, who made closed vans and a twenty seat bus body by Orlandi. A military 508M and a colonial 508 Col were built on the same base from 1932 to 1937. The first series, the 508 A of 1932 and 1933, had the 995 cubic centimetre Fiat type 108 engine of 20 horsepower with a three speed gearbox; the B series shown at Milan in April 1933 raised that to 24 horsepower, and the L series of 1938 used the 1,089 cubic centimetre type 108L of 30 horsepower. Production of the range ended in 1941 with the arrival of the Fiat 1100.
