The Chevrolet 6500, also called the Chevrolet Brasil 6500, was the first General Motors truck produced in Brazil. It was launched in June 1957 and replaced in 1964 by the C-60 line. It was built at the São Caetano do Sul plant in São Paulo and was approved by the GEIA programme with 40 percent of its content made in Brazil. Its cab was unique to the country, a mix of the Advanced Design pickup cab of 1954 and 1955 with the front of the American Task Force series. The logos carried a map of Brazil because it was the first model produced for the Brazilian market. From 1959 it used the 4.28 litre Chevrolet Brasil 261 inline six of 142 cv, built at the new São José dos Campos engine plant. It was offered as the 6403 short chassis, the 6502 long chassis without a cab for buses and the 6503 long chassis, and at the end of 1962 it received a new grille with four headlamps.
