Bedford WLG

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Bedford WLG was the long wheelbase version of the first 2 ton lorry that Bedford built after Vauxhall Motors set the marque up in April 1931. Its chassis was virtually indistinguishable from the Chevrolet LQ it replaced, apart from the styling of the radiator, and it ran on a 13 feet 1 inch (3,990 mm) wheelbase against the 10 feet 11 inches of the short WHG. Both took an overhead valve six cylinder petrol engine derived from Chevrolet practice. A bus chassis followed in August 1931 as the WHB and WLB, the long WLB following the WLG layout, and a later redesign of the WLG with the cab and engine moved forward produced the WTL, which allowed a longer body. The pre war family stayed in production until 1939, when Bedford replaced it with the K, M and O series.
