Austin Loadstar

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Austin Loadstar was a lorry produced by the Austin Motor Company from 1949, the firm's first new lorry design after the Second World War and its last stand-alone design before the merger with Morris that formed the British Motor Corporation. A revised version of the Austin K2, it was sold in Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Scandinavia, partly under the K2 name for two tonne loads and as the K4 for five tonnes. Its power came from Austin's 3995 cc six-cylinder petrol K-series engine of 125 bhp, with a Perkins P6 diesel offered later, and two wheelbases were available. A four-wheel-drive military K9 version served as an ambulance and radio lorry. The Austin S201, S401 and S501 replaced it in 1956.
