Scammell Trunker

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Scammell Trunker was a twin-steer 6x2 tractor unit that appeared at the start of the 1960s, when Scammell introduced a new Michelotti-designed glass fibre reinforced plastic cab for the Routeman, the Handyman and the Trunker. Its layout took advantage of the increased legal weights then available when a tractor was coupled to a semi-trailer with a long front-overhang bogie. By the 1970s the Trunker belonged to the consolidated A range, sold as the Trunker 3 alongside the Handyman 4 and the double-drive Routeman 3, each available with a range of engines and transmissions so that Scammell could compete with the powerful foreign trucks reaching British hauliers.
