Scammell Samson

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Scammell Samson was a heavy haulage tractor that Scammell developed from the Crusader, which the company had launched at the 1968 Earls Court Commercial Vehicle Show. It was basically a four-axle 8x4 Crusader, and the English article describes the special heavy haulage tractor as the Crusader-based Samson with tridem axles. It sold only in limited numbers, in a specialised market sector. The Crusader on which it rested was a high-speed long-distance tractor with a steel cab, offered with Detroit Diesel, Cummins, Rolls-Royce or Leyland engines, so the Samson carried that modern cab and drive line over much heavier running gear for moving very large loads.
