The Scammell Rigid Six was a six-wheeled rigid lorry that Scammell introduced in 1929 when it diversified beyond its articulated lorries and looked for new markets with four- and six-wheel rigid designs. The Rigid Six-wheeler found some success and, with its balloon tyres, at last permitted sustained high-speed, long-distance road operation, which earlier solid-tyred lorries could not offer. In 1937 it was joined by the forward control Rigid Eight-wheeler, the first of a long line of Scammell Eights. The Rigid Six and Rigid Eight ranges ran in parallel with the articulated Lightweight range and the Pioneer cross-country tractor.
