Scammell Rigid Eight

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Scammell Rigid Eight was a forward control eight-wheeled rigid lorry that Scammell introduced in 1937, joining the Rigid Six-wheeler, and it was the first of a long line of Scammell Eights. It belonged to the family of rigid designs with which the company had diversified from its articulated lorries from 1929, moving into new markets while the Articulated Six-wheeler and Articulated Eight-wheeler were being developed into the Lightweight range with the Gardner 6LW engine and Oliver North's six-speed gearbox. Later Scammell eight-wheelers included the double-drive Routeman, which carried the line into the Leyland Group years.
