Renault UD

The Renault UD is a heavy goods vehicle made by the French company Renault in the 1930s. The UD model appeared at the end of 1931 in the 1932 range of Renault industrial vehicles, offered with a four-cylinder petrol engine of 25 CV (UD4), a six-cylinder petrol engine of 40 CV (UD6), a four-cylinder diesel of 25 CV (UDD4) and a six-cylinder diesel of 40 CV (UDD6). At the end of 1932 it adopted a new overhead-valve six-cylinder petrol engine, and at the end of 1933 the bore of the diesels was increased and a new overhead-valve four-cylinder appeared. After the decree of 30 June 1934 limiting the dimensions of heavy vehicles, Renault reduced the width of the UD at the end of 1934. In summer 1936 the French Air Force ordered 50 UD6AE trucks to equip its air base munition transport companies, delivered in autumn 1937, and at the 1936 motor show the 7.5 tonne ADT was presented to replace the UD. At least one UDD6C1 is preserved and being restored in Luxembourg.
