Renault UC

The Renault UC, or UC6, is a 6 by 4 heavy goods vehicle produced by the French company Renault in 1931. Presented at the end of 1931, it has six wheels, four of them driven at the rear, and is distinguished by its articulated suspension. According to the Renault commercial bulletin it derives from the six-wheeled types MH and OX developed in the 1920s. It is available as a truck with a payload of 7 tonnes or as a road tractor with a semi-trailer of 10 tonnes payload. The engine is a Renault side-valve six-cylinder petrol engine of 110 by 160 mm and 35 fiscal horsepower, and it can also take an overhead-valve diesel. The gearbox has four or five speeds and the drive is by broken shaft. The tractor weighs 7 tonnes and the trailer 5 tonnes, and the combination runs at 22.7 km/h in fifth gear at 1,800 rpm. An image of this model stayed for a long time in Le Petit Larousse illustre beside the definition of the word truck.
