Renault SY

The Renault SY is a road tractor produced by the French company Renault from 1929 to 1933. Like the light trucks of the types SX and SZ, the SY tractor was designed by reusing the engine of the Renault Vivasix car and gave up the gendarme's hat bonnet, with the radiator behind the engine, of its predecessors. Renault's commercial range of the time was highly modular with many standardised parts, which made economies of scale possible, improved mass production quality and simplified parts replacement. Within that range the SY can tow a trailer with a payload of 6 tonnes. Production dates are the SY in 1929 and 1930, the SY1 in 1930, the SY2 in 1930 and 1931, the SY3 in 1931 and the SY4 in 1931 and 1932. The SY has the six-cylinder petrol engine of 75 by 120 mm of the Vivasix, giving a rated power of 15 CV, and a gearbox with four forward gears and one reverse.
