Renault R.4080/4180

The Renault R.4080 and R.4180 trucks are the updated version of the Renault 208 and 208 D, the first trucks of 7 tonnes payload that the Regie Renault presented after the Second World War. The forward-cab R.4080/4180 was a medium to heavy truck produced between June 1948 and November 1950, with a payload of 7.0 tonnes for the rigid R.4080 and 12 tonnes for the R.4180 semi-trailer tractor. It is fitted with the Renault diesel engine of 8,344 cubic centimetres and 85 hp SAE of the 208 D and keeps all its dimensional characteristics. Two versions were offered: the R.4080, a diesel rigid truck of 7 tonnes payload, produced in 3,879 examples, and the R.4180, a diesel tractor with a short wheelbase for a 12 tonne semi-trailer, produced in 21 examples, a total of 4,000. The article places it in the history of Renault trucks, from the ABF of 1934 with a half-forward cab, a novelty in France, to the AGR and AGK of 1938 to 1940.
