Mercedes-Benz SK

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Mercedes-Benz SK trucks, from Schwere Klasse meaning heavy class, were produced from 1988 through 1998, when the Actros succeeded them. In essence the SK was a revamped NG chassis with some added driver comforts and electronic assistance and diagnosis, which made it more comfortable than its predecessor. The 1988 cab changed little, with the radiator grille and wind deflectors combined visually and the lower edges of the side windows sloping towards the front, a feature already seen on the TN of 1977 and the LK and LN of 1984. A final facelift in 1994 gave a new front aimed at better aerodynamics and fuel economy. The OM44X series diesel engines, evolved from the OM42X units of the NG, were popular in hot desert climates, and at least two versions were built under licence by other companies.
