The Mercedes-Benz NG, short for New Generation, was a series of medium and heavy trucks built by Daimler-Benz from 1973 to 1988, when the SK series replaced it. It was a completely new design that expanded the company's position in the medium and heavy segments, first with construction-site vehicles and from 1974 with a longer sleeper cab. By 1977 there were short, medium and long-distance cabs, all tilting forward for engine access, and a larger cab followed in 1979. Engines at launch included a smaller 192 PS V6 diesel, and from 1980 a new range from 130 to 375 hp and an 18.3 litre V10 diesel with 500 PS joined it. Mercedes-Benz of North America sold the cab from 1985 as the LP series.
