Mercedes-Benz heavy cab-over trucks (LP)

The heavy cab-over truck with a cubic cab of Daimler-Benz, also called the LP heavy, where P stands for Pullman cab, was a truck of the German manufacturer. In 1963, before the light and medium models, the heavy trucks received a new, angular cab and radiator grille in the taste of the day, built by Daimler-Benz itself rather than by the supplier Wackenhut. At first only a medium-length cab was offered, with much less space than its rounded predecessor; after protests from drivers and customers a longer long-distance cab followed from 1965. Neither cab could be tilted, so servicing was done through many flaps, which earned the trucks the nickname advent calendar. The technology mostly came from the predecessor, including the 200 horsepower inline six-cylinder engine, whose output rose to 210, 230 and finally 240 horsepower for the 38-tonne lorry trains allowed from May 1965. From 1970 a V10 of 320 horsepower and a V8 of 256 horsepower were added with a new tilting cab.
