Mercedes-Benz L 337

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Mercedes-Benz L 337 was a lorry made by Daimler-Benz and sold under the Mercedes-Benz brand. It was introduced in March 1959, discontinued in 1961 and replaced by the L 338, and it was the first generation of the heavy-duty short-bonnet lorries, with a bonnet 300 mm longer than that of the medium-duty short-bonnet lorry. It was designed to the limit of 12,000 kg total permissible mass that the Seebohm legislation set for lorries registered in West Germany, and the rescinding of that law in 1960 made it obsolete. Models included the flatbed L 337, the LK 337 tipper, the forward-control LP 337 and the LS and LPS tractors. A straight-six OM 326 IV diesel engine rated 127 kW drove the rear axle through a five-speed gearbox and a two-speed planetary reduction, giving ten forward gears.
