The Fiat 691 was a versatile heavy lorry, built as a rigid carrier or a semi-trailer tractor by the Italian maker Fiat V.I. from 1970 to 1975. It had the square Fiat H cab and replaced the Fiat 690, the basis of the Italian multi-legged combinations, covering loads of 18 to 44 tonnes. It was a modernised Fiat 690 N4 that kept its drivetrain and its robust chassis, with a new six-cylinder in-line engine derived from the Fiat 8200 and enlarged to 13,798 cubic centimetres. It was built only as a 6x2/2, which Italian specialists converted to an 8x2 with a fourth steerable, liftable axle to allow the 44 tonne combination.
