Fiat 670

The Fiat 670 was a heavy truck built by the Italian maker Fiat V.I. from 1949 to 1952 and described as the first versatile Italian truck, tied to the rebuilding of the country. It was a rigid carrier that could not tow a trailer, offered in a single N version with the first Fiat forward cab, and it covered the 14 to 18 tonne range as a solo carrier. After the war Italy was barred from making three-axle 6x4 trucks and its strict highway code obliged makers to offer separate trucks for towing and non-towing work, which is why the 670 appeared beside the Fiat 680. The two shared a chassis, but the 670 took a less powerful engine, the Fiat 364 six cylinder in-line of 6,032 cubic centimetres giving 72 horsepower in the first series, and was converted into a 6x2 with a lifting third steering axle at the rear on a lengthened chassis. It was replaced by the Fiat 671N.
