Fiat 634

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Fiat 634 was a very heavy Italian lorry made by Fiat Veicoli Industriali and nicknamed the Elephant for its size. Developed alongside the smaller Fiat 632, it was the super-heavy partner of that first pair of diesel trucks from the Turin firm. The 634N of 1931 used a six-cylinder Fiat 355 direct-injection diesel of 8,312 cubic centimetres and the N1 of 1933 a development of it; the civilian N2 had a redrawn cab and was approved to tow a ten tonne trailer, a combined weight of 24 tonnes that was huge for the time. A 634G producer-gas version followed in 1934. It was among the first trucks with artillery wheels, a 24 volt electrical system and a driver's sleeping berth.
