The Renault ZP, ABF and ABG formed a range of medium-duty forward control trucks built by Renault between 1934 and 1937, with a related bus and coach called the ZP that shared the same cabin. They appeared after French rules in 1934 limited road vehicle width, length and weight, which led Renault to replace the conventional cabs of its early 1930s vehicles with forward control. The ABF, a five tonne payload truck, was shown at the Paris Salon in September 1934, and the ABG tractor unit for loads up to ten tonnes followed at the Brussels Salon that November. Both used the same 5.9 litre petrol or 8.4 litre diesel inline-four engines rated at 85 metric horsepower, leaf spring suspension and a four-speed manual gearbox. Some ABFs were adapted for natural gas by the French military, and some ABGs were bodied for trans-Saharan travel. Both trucks left the lineup in late 1937, replaced by the AGK, while the ZP carried 23 to 36 passengers.
