Renault EP

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Renault EP was a lorry designed by Renault in 1914 and shown at the heavy-vehicle competition that the French War Ministry organised in July 1914. The outbreak of war stopped the competition, but the French Army at once ordered the EP in series, and from September 1915 Renault concentrated its lorry output on it. During the war 7,540 were built, among them 504 for the Imperial Russian Army, one for Belgium and 96 for the civilian market. It carried a payload of 2,500 kilograms and had an engine of 3.5 litres giving about 16 horsepower. Its chassis also carried a 47 mm gun lorry and specialised bodies such as X-ray, sterilisation, radio and telephone vans. After the armistice the most worn examples were withdrawn and some were sold to civilians; the last left service in the mid 1930s.
