Early 1930s Renault commercial vehicles

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The early 1930s Renault commercial vehicles were a range of modular chassis that Renault sold in many configurations, mostly as trucks, buses and coaches. After ending production of its last bonneted vehicles with the radiator behind the engine at the end of 1930, Renault adopted more vertical grilles, and the range was the first from the company to offer diesel engines, a 7 litre inline-four and a 10.5 litre inline-six developed from its marine diesel experience. Heavy standardisation of parts improved economies of scale and simplified repairs. The 1931 line-up grew from light models such as the RY, KZ and OS up through the PR, SX, SZ, TL, TR, TS and tractor units such as the SY and TT, and later years added models like the YP, YF, ZJ, ZY and ZF. French government limits on vehicle dimensions and weight in 1934 pushed Renault to forward control designs, and the range was gradually replaced from 1935 by the ACx and ADx light range, the ABF and ABG medium range and the ZP bus and coach.
