Mitsubishi Fuso The Great is a heavy truck range manufactured and sold by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, now Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, from 1983 until 2001. It is a collective name for the FT, FV and FU series, succeeded the Mitsubishi F-series heavy trucks and was gradually replaced by the Super Great from 1996. Its design language also defined the later Canter and Fighter, and it was also built as a tractor truck. It was produced under licence in South Korea by Hyundai as the Hyundai 91A and by Dongfeng Liuqi in China, and Japanese police used it as a base for armoured security vehicles. In 1997 two Greats finished fifth and sixth in the truck category of the Dakar rally. Introduced in July 1983 with rectangular headlights, it gained an 8-ton FP-R semi-tractor with the 6D22 engine in September 1983, a 6x4 FV-R with an 8DC9 V8 in November, and later 8DC11 and 440 PS 10DC11 engines.
