The Apollo Lunar Module is a two-stage spacecraft that NASA developed to carry two astronauts from lunar orbit down to the surface of the Moon and back, flown as part of the Apollo program's Command/Service Module missions. Its descent stage served as a launch platform for its own ascent stage, which carried the crew back into lunar orbit to redock with the orbiting command module, and the type carried out six successful crewed Moon landings between 1969 and 1972, beginning with Apollo 11's Eagle.
