The CBX reached the market in late 1978, with a 1047 cc transverse six cylinder engine making 105 bhp, the flagship of the Honda range. Cycle editor Cook Neilson wrote in the issue of February 1978, after four days with a pre-production bike, that the goal of building the fastest production motorcycle on sale anywhere in the world had been reached. Cycle World tested a quarter mile in 11.64 seconds, and the 1978 bike was also the first it tested above 130 mph.
