The 1991 model year was the final year of the fourth-generation Civic. North America saw only small updates: the DX hatchbacks gained full wheel covers and bumpers painted the body color, and the Si swapped black door mirrors for body-colored ones. The generation had been on Car and Driver's 10Best list for all four of its years, 1988 to 1991, and its wagon continued in some markets until 1996. The fifth generation debuted in Japan on September 9, 1991.
