The third generation Insight first appeared as a prototype at the Detroit auto show in 2018, and Honda revealed the production version at the New York International Auto Show that year. Sales began in the United States in June 2018 for the 2019 model year, then in Mexico on September 6, 2018 and in Japan on December 13, 2018, with sales starting the day after. It is based on the tenth generation Honda Civic sedan and assembled at the same Greensburg, Indiana plant, and unlike the previous Insight it is a traditional sedan, not a five door liftback.
