Honda showed the fourth generation City to the world at the Thailand International Motor Expo in Bangkok in November 2002, and Japan received it on 20 December 2002 as the Fit Aria, a captive import from Thailand. The word aria is a type of expressive melody, and Honda chose it, continuing its musical naming tradition used with the Prelude, the Accord, the Ballade, the Quint and the Concerto. Honda first offered it with a twin spark, lean burn i-DSI engine making 88 PS.
